Meet the person behind New Skin Bodyart

Laura Nuesken
From a young age on I have always been interested in arts and crafts. I enjoy creating things and I enjoy beautifully created things.
Having a vivid imagination I have been searching for ways to capture it and turn it into something others can see as well.
Face painting eventually caught my interest and from the first painted face on I was hooked. It wasn’t long before I expanded my canvas from just the face to the whole body. Face and body painting allows me to create and to transform. I can combine it with my crafty side by creating costumes, headpieces and accessories that go with my vision. Being detail oriented and ambitious I always strive for the perfect way to bring my vision or the vision of others to life.
In order to be able to do so and to better myself in what I do, I take advantage of opportunities offered to learn from the leading artists in the face and body painting industry.
So far I have received professional instructions from Sean Avram, Mark Reid, Lynne McKay and the Wolfe brothers, Nick and Brian. Furthermore, I register for conventions and online classes to learn from a variety of different artists in the field.
I am open to work with other professionals in the creative field such as photographers, make-up artists, designers and fellow face and body artists. This can lead to amazing collaborations and give me new inspiration for future work.
While taking my work very seriously and being passionate about it, I very much enjoy what I am doing and I hope that others will enjoy my work just as much.
You can read more about my business and the products I use, in the FAQ section and more about what New Skin Bodyart can offer you in the Services and Rates section of this website.
I have added a few more personal information about me in the paragraph below. Should you have further questions about me or my work, please don't hesitate to contact me.
I was born in 1981 to a British mother and a German father. I grew up in a small town located at the banks of the river Rhine between Cologne and Düsseldorf in the western part of North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. I lived there with my parents and three siblings. After attending school for 13 years and finishing with “Fachhochschulreife” in 2000, I successfully passed my exams to become a foreign language correspondent.
I am fluent in both, English and German; I can understand and read some French, Dutch and Spanish but would not be able to carry a conversation in these languages.
Sports, white water slalom (kayaking) in particular, has been and still is a big part of my life and that of my family. I had been very engaged in the sport and competed on a regional and national level.
It was no surprise then that I met my future husband at one of the races and eventually moved to live with him in his birth city. We got married and shortly after our first daughter was born in 2003 we moved to Dortmund. It was there, where I gave birth to our second daughter in 2005. During our time in Dortmund I ran two parent-tod groups and was involved in my daughters’ Kindergarten as a parents’ representative.
In 2007, we were given an opportunity to move to Canada and relocated to London, Ontario. My husband was issued a work permit for three years which then got extended another year. During that time we became foster parents for the local CAS and I got involved with the German school. In 2011 our application for permanent residency got approved, which has again opened a new chapter and new possibilities in our lives.
Apart from running my own business as a Body, Prenatal Belly and Face painter, I also am a volunteer and voting member of the school council at the school my daughters attend.
